What You Will Do

Use your administrative management skills to support national security! We are looking for a Staff Operations Manager (SOM) 3 to support the Infrastructure Services Division (ISD). ISD-DO provides robust and powerful technology for communication and workplace infrastructure allowing LANL to work securely and seamlessly. The SOM 3 will function as a member of the ISD Division management team to plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities. Specific roles and responsibilities include:
  • Serve as a key advisor to management on business, operational, and/or programmatic activities and initiatives.
  • Participate in and/or lead strategic planning, strategic staffing, organizational operations, and administrative activities.
  • Research, develop, provide recommendations, and implement systems, processes, policies, and procedures important to the Division.
  • Partner with the ALD SOM and other SOMs within the Directorate to ensure standard implementation of institutional and directorate level policies, plans, and business practices.
  • Serve as a mentor to the administrative staff within the division, including the management of administrative and/or operational support and professional staff.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Business Operations
  • Advanced knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with the administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities in a minimum of four of the following areas: participation in activities related to staffing plans, assisting in the management of headcount to budgets and forecasts, organizational-level onboarding and development activities, administration of rewards and recognition programs, strategic and tactical planning, process improvement, and personnel management.
  • Experience with LANL business systems and knowledge of LANL organizations.

Leadership
  • Experience taking initiative and working to resolve complex issues in a manner that fosters institutional values, staff productivity, and customer satisfaction, commitment to excellence in operations, staff relations, and customer relationship management.
  • Ability to function as a member of an executive management team, to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small teams and mentoring other staff or students.

Problem Solving
  • Extensive experience organizing complex, multi-tasked projects through prioritization and teaming with others.
  • Demonstrated experience taking ownership of multiple and conflicting issues in a manner that fosters institutional values, staff productivity, customer satisfaction, and buy-in.
  • Expert-level experience in developing and implementing process improvements to meet high-level, complex operational and business needs.

Communication
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers, and strong teaming skills.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution.
  • Strong understanding of space management and office utilization.
  • Experience with LANL business systems and knowledge of LANL organizations.
  • Active DOE "Q" clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
