Job Description:

The College of Dentistry is accepting applications for a Sterile Equipment Technician. Main duties include dispensing clean Instruments to dental students and departments, collecting and tracking used/dirty instruments, disinfection and sterilization of dental instrumentation, and replacement of broken or missing instruments for UFCD (dental students, faculty, and departments throughout the College of Dentistry).

Duties Include:
  • Dispensing clean instruments to dental students and departments, using computer program INFO-DOT. Collecting, tracking, and processing dirty instruments according to sterilization protocol.
  • Disinfecting and sterilizing dental instruments for all UFCD dental students, and the UFCD dental clinics: Replacing broken or missing instruments for UFCD dental students.
  • Recording in-coming and outgoing instruments from students and departments.
  • Oiling and maintaining instruments.
  • Maintain office supplies inventory.
  • Labeling and scanning with the INFO-DOT program.
  • In-service training (updates, new sterilization techniques, and computer classes).
  • Other duties as assigned.
The work schedule is as follows:
  • You will be assigned 7am-4pm Mon-Fri or 8:30am-5:30pm Mon-Fri with a switch every six months.
  • Work some Saturdays and Sundays for continuing education classes and Florida Dental Board Examinations (5 to 30 hours of overtime).

Expected Salary:

$16.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Dental assisting certificate
  • one (1) year of dental or dental assisting experience or one (1) year of medical experience
  • Some computer knowledge (Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to reach above shoulder frequently, lift heavy items, to bend repeatedly, and to pull and push repetitively
  • CPR certification upon hire
