Job Summary
Working within the University of Michigan School of Public Health (SPH) Office for Student Affairs , the Student Life Program Specialist will report to the Student Life Program Manager and coordinate all student life programming, communications, and events. You will work directly with students to provide co-curricular advising and support and will be the primary point person for all Public Health student organizations. You will advocate for student life initiatives and focus on promoting student learning and development. The salary range for this position is $45,234 - $55,878. Responsibilities*
Student Life Program Planning
- Facilitate and develop program planning and evaluation for SPH student life events with the ability to oversee logistics from beginning to end, develop program goals and activities, and facilitate student engagement.
- Coordinate/update the student social groups (such as First-gen and International).
- Foster relationships with SPH partners to meet student programming needs.
- Partner with SPH colleagues for Signature Events such as Orientation, Alumni Networking Night, National Public Health Week, and Graduation/Grad Kick-Off.
- Research pedagogy around student life program areas and incorporate concepts into program content.
Student Organization Advising and Support
- Serve as the primary point person for all SPH student organizations.
- Provide advising and resources for SPH student organizations, including meeting with student organization leadership, responding to student group questions about the SPH and campus policies, coordinating collaborative activities, and organizing student leader communications, training, and other group leader events.
- Administer funding requests for student-led activities.
- Communicate student feedback, requests, and ideas with the administration.
Communications & Resource Liaison
- Administer all student life communications, including school-wide newsletters and email group moderation.
- Represent SPH interests with the Center for Campus Involvement, UM Student Life, and the Rackham Graduate School to stay up-to-date on university policies and best practices.
- Establish and maintain linkages and refer students to appropriate campus partners, such as CAPS, CCI, SSD, General Counsel, Dean of Students, Rackham, and the International Center.
- Serve as a member of the Michigan Leadership Collaboration and the ACUM Grad Advisor Committee.
- Coordinate the assessment and reporting of the student experience.
- Represent SPH to internal faculty and staff groups within the school through written materials, oral presentations, and email communications.
- Provide a safe and welcoming environment for SPH student inquiries.
- Provide onboarding and orientation messaging/content for incoming students.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Administrative supervision of one work-study on a project-by-project basis.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience working in an academic environment, student services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Interest in student affairs and student development.
- Knowledge of FOIA and FERPA regulations.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate events
