In a training capacity and under close supervision of the Senior Engineer, the Student Assistant (Engineering and Architectural Sciences) assists Engineers, Geologists, and Water Technicians with professional and non-professional engineering work covering a wide range of technical specialties. Special Requirements

All applicants for Student Assistant positions must meet the following departmental eligibility requirements:

  • Enrolled in nine (9) semester/eight (8) quarter units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester/four (4) quarter units for graduate students.
  • Achieved a 2.0 grade point average in the most recently completed academic term.
  • Declared a major related to the duties of the advertised position and enrolled in coursework required for that major.


  • Possession of a valid California Driver License is required.

    Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

    Our ideal candidate will be a Civil Engineering student with a strong background in MS Office software, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and land surveying. The candidate should be able to work at least 15 hours per week while school is in session and full-time when school is out. This position requires the incumbent to work cooperatively in a team and communicate well with others both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of field data collection and data management is highly preferred.
