The Student Nurse Externship program at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital is designed to enhance your academic experience as an undergraduate Baccalaureate Nursing Student. You will participate in Educational Sessions, and other focused experiences. The program is an exceptional opportunity for student nurses to strengthen their nursing skills, build confidence and gain exposure to different nursing specialties in an acute inpatient rehabilitation setting.

Extern positionsare available in each specialty unit, depending on availability:

• Cardiac & Stroke

• Spinal Cord Injury

• Traumatic Brain Injury

Cohort start date: December 16, 2024

Required Commitment: During your winter break, you will work 36 hours per week. This may be 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your school schedule. Once your classes begin for the spring semester, you may transition to working flexible per diem shifts leading up to graduation. Your schedule will include educational sessions for additional learning opportunity.

Hours: 3, 12-hour shifts (Days or Nights with rotating weekends)

Pay: $20.12 per hour

Education/Training: Active enrollment as a senior nursing student (or entering senior year) in an RN program; Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program and completed the Med/Surg Clinical rotation in a hospital setting. Official transcripts will be required at time of hire and at the end of each semester to validate active enrollment.

Experience: No clinical experience outside of nursing school experience required.

License/Certification: BLS (CPR for Healthcare Providers) certification.
