Summary

The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) is looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Student Trainee (Human Resource Development).

This Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) may be used to fill other Student Trainee (Human Resource Development), GS-0299-4 positions within the FRTIB in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

This job is open to

    Current students enrolled in accredited educational institutions from high school to graduate level. Includes internships, pathways and other student programs.


Clarification from the agency

Student accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution, on at least a half-time basis; or accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program or Peace Corps). Be in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher out of 4.0). Anticipated graduation date AFTER Dec. 31, 2025.

Duties

The major duties of the position are:
  • planning, administering, coordinating, and evaluating of FRTIB training program activities;
  • managing training room reservations and schedule;
  • setting up training rooms (e.g., moving tables and chairs) and equipment needs;
  • supplying attendance sheets and collecting course feedback; and
  • scheduling on-site instructor-led trainings.

Trial period required - duration of appointment.

Background Suitability Investigation. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background investigation and the granting of a federal suitability or security clearance. If selected, you may be offered tentative employment until the background investigation has been fully adjudicated.

Pathways Intern Program Requirements: (1) meet the definition of a student for the duration of the appointment, (2) be in good academic standing, (3) complete and Individual Development Plan, (4) sign a participant agreement, and (5) be under an established performance appraisal plan.

Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion.

The internship will expire 180 days after completion of the designated academic course of study.

Qualifications

You must meet the eligibility and qualifications by the closing date of the announcement.

Eligibility:
  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution, on at least a half-time basis; or

Qualifications:

  • Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be verified through your transcripts or enrollment verification, an academic year is as follows:

  • At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education.
  • For study at a business or technical school, 36 weeks of study (20+ classroom hours per week) is comparable to 1 academic year above high school.


Education

Foreign Education. If you are using education completed at foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign education programs. Foreign education must be deemed equivalent to that gained at an accredited U.S. education program.
