As environmental specialist, you'll assist with several key programs within DSW. You'll evaluate applications for Household Sewage Treatment System (HSTS) permits and recommend systems for coverage. You'll coordinate HSTS evaluations with local health districts and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and provide guidance on the HSTS program.

You'll write, review, and process permits and construction applications related to the Pretreatment and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) programs for wastewater treatment facilities. In coordination with district staff, you'll coordinate and perform compliance inspections, investigate complaints, recommend actions required of facilities to comply with state and federal standards, and draft enforcement actions as necessary.

You'll help coordinate the Operator Certification Program, including reviewing applications and documents to ensure sanitary wastewater treatment plants and/or collection systems are being operated by a certified, professional operator of record in accordance with appropriate state rules and regulations.

As subject expert, you'll provide technical assistance on DSW programs to public officials, industry representatives, professional organizations, and agency staff and provide program guidance at conferences and meetings with trade groups, health districts, the Ohio Department of Health, and other organizations.
