Job Description

Under direction, is responsible for planning, developing and/or implementing security programs involving the supervision and coordination of security staff of a broader assigned area. In addition to performing the duties of the lower Assignment Levels, performs the following:

Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Formulates and approves security arrangements, regulations and procedures to conform to agency policies and directives. Coordinates with landlord to establish evacuation/fire safety procedures and conduct drills.
2. Conducts frequent inspections to ensure that a safe environment is maintained. Ensures that database access control system ID cards are issued and replaced. Maintains database.
3. Extracts information from computer and video records.

Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment Level I:
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security; or
2. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma and eighteen months of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 1 above.
3. Current New York State Peace Officer certification.

For Appointment to Assignment Level II:
In addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Level I, appointment to Assignment Level II requires:
1. Four years of satisfactory experience as a Special Officer, at least two years of which must have been as a Supervising Special Officer, Level I; or
2. Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Special Note:
1. A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions based on the operational needs of the network/facility. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
