Job Description

Purpose:

SSO Level 2 (Captain)- Under the general direction of the Hospital Police Director, directs, plans, administers and evaluates the security Operations of South Brooklyn Health Hospital in accordance with established corporate policies, regulations and Operating procedures.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in developing and implementation of programs, policies, procedural guidelines, evaluative and monitoring techniques to protect employees, patients, visitors and property from crime, vandalism, theft and prevention of related illegal actions.
  2. Assist in developing and implementation and directs the enforcement of traffic and parking control patterns.
  3. Conducts investigations in conjunction with Corporate Security, The Inspector General and other law enforcement agencies as directed; in matters affecting the Hospital.
  4. Responsible of the daily operations for the Hospital Police Department.
  5. Plans and participates in training for employees involved in security activities. Schedules all security personnel
  6. Assist in arranging for pre-employment work performance and appoints security personnel, established work performance; develops staffing patterns and recommends changes in personnel and disciplinary actions.
  7. Maintains liaison and confers with the Hospital Police Director, Department Heads, Corporate Director of Security and external security agencies.
  8. Assist, Prepares, directs and preparation of reports, special studies, and security investigations and participates in meetings, conferences, and seminars appropriate to assigned duties.
  9. Assist with Coordinating the administrative aspects of external/internal disaster plans including reports of drills and exercises conducted when assigned to these programs.
  10. Assists with coordinating the interdepartmental policies between other departments and HP.


Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment Level I:
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security; or
2. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma and eighteen months of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 1 above.
3. Current New York State Peace Officer certification.

For Appointment to Assignment Level II:
In addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Level I, appointment to Assignment Level II requires:
1. Four years of satisfactory experience as a Special Officer, at least two years of which must have been as a Supervising Special Officer, Level I; or
2. Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Special Note:
1. A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions based on the operational needs of the network/facility. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
