The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Supervisor of Building Sustainability & Automation directs the frontline staff (Union) in executing daily performance inspections, runs system diagnostics and maintains system back-ups, as well as the integrity of the different networks, including servers, programmable logic controllers (PLC), controllers, field installed equipment, devices, and workstations. This position assists with the development and oversight of the preventive maintenance program, security access, and performs system programming as necessary for improvements and customization. The Supervisor makes recommendations for energy efficiency improvements and works on the continuous commissioning of the campus control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Assists with the diagnosis and correction of HVAC and other system anomalies.
  • Oversees the implementation of control system projects to ensure compliance and conformance with University's standards, including interfacing with contractors on new/retrofit installations, implementation and commissioning.
  • Works with CUIT/CUFIT to troubleshoot any interfacing issues with their network and the various systems using the CUIT network, as well as maintains the district energy system network.
  • Full management and control over the independent SCADA system, controlling the equipment and its' compliment of PLC's.
  • Maintains a close relationship with control engineering personnel to include tuning and calibration.
  • Oversees the activities of contractors and suppliers, monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs, monitors general expenditure of the units and performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards.
  • Assists with the completion of purchase orders, monitors all expenses, assigns payment codes, and submits invoices for payment to the finance office.
  • Solicit bids for maintenance contracts, construction projects and participates in the selection of contractors.
  • Obtain bids for capital improvement as needed.
  • Works closely with the Manager of Building Sustainability & Automation to provide a highly reliable environment and seamless service to the clients, as well as supporting other departments, events, and activities as required.
  • Provide a high level of communication between departments and clients.
  • Oversees staff development, mentorship and training including compliance with certifications and licensing. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 4-6 years of related experience required.
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated supervisory experience of union/non-union staff required.
  • Strong understanding of Sustainability and Commissioning methods.
  • Strong understanding of the various systems throughout a facility, including HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Lighting, etc.
  • Computer literacy and experience working with spreadsheets required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of OSHA guidelines, engineering standards and compliance with all cities, state, and federal regulations
  • Employees are required to be Tuberculosis (TB) negative, submit to periodic TB testing and a chest x-ray if a positive TB test isread.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred: Building Automation & Controls Programming experience and abilities.
