Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Senior social worker is responsible for the coordination of discharge planning across the Adult Inpatient Services. This position also provides general oversight and supervises the delivery of social work services on the Adult Inpatient Services. The Adult IP Senior SW assists in representation of the Inpatient Social Work Program on departmental interdisciplinary management, program development, policy and procedure, and quality assurance committees. The Senior SW assists in developing and maintaining of administrative liaison with community agencies and referral sources, both internal and external to the Department to facilitate continuity of care, and timely discharge of patients from the inpatient services. The Adult Inpatient Senior Social Worker works in collaboration with the SW Manager for Inpatient Psychiatry.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participates in recruitment, training, and evaluation of Inpatient social work staff in collaboration with appropriate interdisciplinary members of the program. Provides administrative and clinical supervision to inpatient social worker team, which may consist of either informal/formal individual or discipline specific meetings or within treatment team settings.
  • Functions as a social work float, providing back up coverage for unit social workers planned and unplanned absences. Participates in social work administrator on-call activities.
  • Participates in the management of patients who are, or have the potential of becoming Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients.
  • Provides consultation and/or direct services to particularly difficult or complex inpatients, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team and the program, to include facilitation of weekly psychiatry Census Management meeting.
  • Collaborates regularly with the Directors of Inpatient Services for the purpose of needs assessment, program development, operations monitoring and quality assurance. Collaborates regularly with the Inpatient Leadership Teams in the identification and resolution of problems within the delivery of care system with special emphasis on discharge planning for patients on the Inpatient Services.
  • In partnership with the Inpatient leadership, facilitates interdisciplinary treatment team meetings as well as other general staff meetings.
  • Ensures the Social Work Division, Department, and Hospital policies and procedures are implemented with regard to patient care, discharge planning, and professional practice. Represents the Inpatient Services social workers on appropriate departmental committees and task forces. Acts as social work liaison to the CPEP, Utilization Review, and to financial counseling.
  • Documents interventions, both direct and indirect, in the patient's medical record in compliance with the Division, Department, and Hospital policy, to include safety plans or other documentation crucial to discharge planning and continuity of care.
  • Attends Division, Department, and Clinic level staff meetings. Ensures that Division, Department, and Clinic policies and procedures are implemented with regard to professional practice and patient care. Ensures timely completion of statistical reports/forms, time sheets, and other Hospital or Division mandatory in-service trainings and Health Assessments. Subscribes to maintaining a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. Participates in available cultural competency events and training appropriate to job duties.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program required.
  • 3-5 years of post-graduate clinical experience working with individuals within an acute setting preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience in clinical and/or administrative supervision preferred.
  • Skills in agency-based policy/procedure development preferred.
  • Skills in effective employee engagement and leadership preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental illness preferred.
  • Ability to engage in person centered treatment preferred.
  • Knowledge/skills in various therapeutic interventions including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing preferred.
  • Knowledge of risk evaluation and mitigation preferred.
  • Licensure as a social worker, as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services is required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $69,326 - $90,126 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
