Summary

The Supervisory Veterans Service Representative (Coach) leads an assigned team within the Veterans Service Center (VSC), BEST, or Pension Management Center division through a staff of personnel responsible for providing information, advice, and assistance on all types of Veterans benefits claims administered to veterans/dependents and for providing outreach service to various stakeholders.

Duties

Major Duties:

  • Ensures that the team's quality and timeliness of service meets performance indicator goals.
  • Is responsible for the cost-effective use of resources to accomplish the team's assigned outcomes.
  • Supervises work that is vital to the processes through which the agency formulates award decisions involving the expenditure of large sums of money or denials, which can have major adverse consequences for an applicant. It may also affect the applicant's eligibility for medical protection, social services, food stamps, and other forms of income assistance.
  • Gathers and interprets a wide range of data addressing service concerns and recommends appropriate action based on that data.
  • Possesses the understanding and ability to apply the principles of individual counseling and small group dynamics.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/20/2024.

Time In Grade: Applicants who are/were federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet Time In Grade requirements. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 level. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position(s), and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The applicant must document knowledge of a complex field of laws, regulations and Federal legislation pertaining to the full range of Veterans benefits and a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of state, federal and local benefit programs in order to be able to explain them, both orally and in writing, to individuals of all educational backgrounds.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include:
  • Performing the duties of an Assistant Coach and assisting Coaches in their responsibilities on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring that the teams' qualify, and timeliness of service meets performance indicator goals.
  • Responsible for the cost-effective use of resources to accomplish the teams' assigned outcomes.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional information

Work Schedule: Standard 5-day, 8-hour, full time (40 hours a week) schedule, 8:0 am to 4:30 pm CDT; Monday - Friday. Hours may vary to effectively carry out the mission.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work.
