Tesla is looking for a passionate, a highly skilled and experienced Engineer specializing in failure analysis to join our Semiconductor Component Supplier Industrialization Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving comprehensive failure analysis efforts, utilizing skillsets not only on circuit analysis for respective applications, but also on in-depth investigations of the manufacturing processes, control plans, and D/PFMEAs (Design/Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Your work will encompass a diverse range of different commodities, including ASICs, discrete components, sensors portfolios (current, magnetic, optical, motion, humidity and temperature sensors). You will establish defect rate baselines and develop targeted improvement plans while collaborating with cross-functional teams across PCBA, engineering, reliability, design, field quality, factories, and contracted manufacturers.
This role also entails conducting design reviews with semiconductor suppliers and performing manufacturing audits, as well as leading qualification and characterization reviews. Your efforts will be critical in influencing design decisions, enhancing system integration, and driving improvements in manufacturing quality, ultimately ensuring the successful productization of Tesla products.


Responsibilities
  • Conduct circuit analysis to identify and diagnose failures in electronic systems and semiconductor components
  • Assess application requirements to evaluate the impact of failures on system performance
  • Perform sensitivity analysis on parametric performance shifts to determine root causes of failures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement design improvements and preventive measures
  • Drive physical failure analysis with suppliers and the manufacturing process to resolve defects and improve product quality
  • Manage supplier quality initiatives to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
  • Foster strong relationships with suppliers to enhance communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Influence and engage with supplier senior management, including their executive teams, to drive alignment and commitment to quality improvements
  • Interface with semiconductor suppliers to gather data and support failure analysis activities
  • Drive qualified vendors to reduce defects and maintain high-volume manufacturing at reduced PPM (parts per million) levels


Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Proven experience in failure analysis techniques for electronic systems and semiconductor components
  • Proficiency in circuit analysis tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, or similar software
  • Strong familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) principles
  • In-depth understanding of device physics, device-level reliability, process qualification, physical failure analysis, and statistical analysis across wafer, package/assembly and system
  • Hands-on experience with sensor integration, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, optical sensors, temperature, and humidity sensors
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and behavior under various operating conditions
  • Experience with semiconductor frontend fabrication, backend assembly, wafer testing, and discrete component failure analysis
  • In-depth knowledge and direct experience of semiconductor Logic and Memory wafer fabrication technology and process flow
  • Proven experience driving physical failure analysis with suppliers and improving manufacturing processes

      $80,000 - $204,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
