As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for critical component development, quality management, continuous improvement, and qualification activities at suppliers. The job requires effective communication at all levels both with internal and external teams, conducting failure analysis, leading statistical process control activities for critical components, and on-the-spot critical decision making.
The goal: protect Tesla factories from quality issues coming from suppliers, by driving fast and efficient reaction for quality excursions, as well as sharing and driving best practices for manufacturing, quality, and engineering, delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches, utilizing lean manufacturing principals to reduce waste and improve quality minimizing disruptions to the production lines caused by incoming quality issues/defects.


Responsibilities
  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies, Statistical Process Control, scorecards, ensuring supplier compliance, whilst driving systematic problem solving and process improvement plans
  • Based on performance and business needs, set priorities for cross functional teams and suppliers
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with Supply Chain Team to manage, implement, and track supplier/engineering, design changes, capacity studies and New Product Introductions
  • Track and Manage Supplier Correct Action Request process within the manufacturing environment working closely with Supply Chain organization and Suppliers
  • Provide leadership and guidance during investigations of major problems and or special projects focusing on supplier development and improvement
  • Perform root cause analysis, coordinate, and conduct specialized testing and measurement
  • Plan, organize, direct, and report all activities and matters relating to supplier performance; Assess supplier qualifications status
  • Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
  • Develop incoming quality assurance process and procedures to enable sampling of parts and assurance of supplier outgoing quality processes
  • Lead First Article Inspection, execution and follow up of part qualification tasks (PPAP/TQP) pertinent to the Tesla factory


Requirements
  • Degree in engineering field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience and knowledge of PPAP/APQP processes
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and sampling inspection
  • Knowledge in Statistics, Statistical Process Control and data mining and analysis
  • Possess demonstrable leadership abilities and previous experience managing safety critical parts
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level with proven results in meeting customer requirements
  • Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Self-starter and seeks opportunities to improve processes, part quality, and overall efficiency
  • Data driven, identifies trends and prioritize work/activities

      $64,800 - $232,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
