Duties

THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION.

Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered.

The primary purpose of the SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, is to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting,

inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.

May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.

CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Compatible Military Assignment and Grade are required. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position.

Qualifications

General Experience: Possess experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10: Must have at least 18 months experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems; Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment; Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems; Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.
