Aspirus Physical Medicine & Rehab in Wausau, WI is seeking a SURGERY FIRST ASSISTANT to assist in pain management procedures.

The Surgical First Assistant is responsible for providing primary assistance to the primary surgeon during a surgical procedure. The First Assist is responsible for planning and organizing supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures and provides exposure; hemostasis and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation while optimizing results for our patients. Collaborates with all surgical team members to ensure the safe and efficient passage of a patient through surgery. The First Assist participates in the delivery of health care to patients including maintenance of clinical record/documentation in the clinic setting. Performs a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for medical staff. The position requires the ability to make decisions consistent with clinic and surgical policies and the strict observance of confidentiality of patient information.

HOURS: Full Time, 1.0 FTE or 80 hours per pay period, day shift between 7a-5p. Outpatient in the Procedure Center with at least one day in the clinic.

Experience/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of surgical standards and practices normally acquired through graduation from an approved accredited school of Surgical Technology.
  • Has advanced knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and operative technique related to the operative procedure in which the First Assistant will assist.
  • Six months of on the job training/experience as a First Assist.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • ACLS and/or PALS certification desired.
  • Former Medical Assisting experience desired.
