PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Applies knowledge and experience of principles of Universal Precautions, asepsis and maintenance of the sterile field; is knowledgeable of the anatomy & physiology of the planned procedures, methods of sterilization and applications for each type of instrumentation, surgical materials, patient positioning and transfer method

• Efficiently and effectively assists physician with operative procedure

o Prepares the operating room for surgical case

o Anticipates surgeon / physician's needs both in preparing for procedures and during the procedure

o Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, proper recordation of detail

o Conducts sponge, needle and instrument count pre-operatively and intraoperative with circulating nurse

o Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning area

• Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency situations. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument set

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduate, CST preferred

• 3-5 years similar experience in an ASC intraoperative setting, orthopedic/spine experience preferred

• BLS / ACLS / PALS Certified, as applicable

• Ability to make sound, reasonable decision

• Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptiveness to change

• Ability to identify and calmly handle inherently stressful situations with tact

• Highly organized with ability to concentrate on many detailed request

• Excellent communication skill

• Ability to develop excellent working relationships with physicians, hospital partners and ASC staff

• Maintains regular attendance
