The Operating Room in Orangeburg is looking for a Certified Surgical Technologist or Licensed Practical Nurse who would like to work as a surgical tech. Will train LPN to scrub.

Prepares surgical set-up for procedures; observes and anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the procedure; functions within a sterile field; Functions as a surgical assistant.

Job Description

The CST / LPN demonstrates proficiency according to the Laws governing nursing in South Carolina. This position delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results and outcomes. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Certified Surgical Technologist / Licensed Practical Nurse follows established procedural guides in the preparation of sterile supplies and equipment used in the surgical procedures, performs appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care, and functions autonomously as a member of the operating room team. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to provide care and/or service appropriate to the level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients’ families.

Work Schedule Details: Call required for rotating weekends, holidays. Weekdays: 4/10-hour shifts or 5 / 8-hour shifts as fulltime (40 hours).

Essential Functions: 1. Drapes patients for surgical procedures and assist the surgical team during operative procedure. 2. Cleans and prepared rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. 3. Maintains and cares for equipment supplies. 4. Documents maintenance and repairs and troubleshoot equipment needs when necessary. 5. Performs assisting duties as needed. 6. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand for periods up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell. Must be able to lift 50 pounds 50% of the time and up to 100 pounds 50% of the time in order to move anesthetized patients. Must possess the fine manual dexterity skills to assist with operative procedures; and close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet away) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus). Mental Requirements: Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical, or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff. Must possess the ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) using numbers and units of money. Listeners can understand verbal communication. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions. Additional Job Description

High school diploma.Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology or surgical technology military program. Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, (formerly LCC-ST) preferred or must obtain within 3 months of hire. Educational and clinical training with documentation for surgical assisting and/or proof of completion of Military training as an Operating Room Specialist (68-D) plus 3 years of experience in the operating room environment.
