The Systems Integration Engineer for failure analysis of R&D Systems will implement the framework and processes to operate, investigate, and maintain the exceptionally complex Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System within the R&D organization. They will build R&D lab infrastructure, investigate and resolve issues, and document novel issues that arise during system use. This role lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and clinical engineering. Applicants should have experience working in unstructured R&D environments, but need not have direct experience in robotics. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in medical robotics to gain deep technical and industry knowledge, while providing a critical service to the OTTAVA program.

Qualifications

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Build the infrastructure, and own the machines/equipment/fixtures needed to perform repair and test processes.
  • Investigate and root cause issues that commonly arise across the R&D system fleet.
  • Document test plans, results, conclusions, and traceability with product requirements and design specifications
  • Perform engineering tests on various electro-mechanical systems.
  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) principles to assembly, test records and related documentation.
  • Triage, document and communicate issues that arise during test, repairs, or upgrades.
  • Maintain the configuration and records of systems used for development and verification.
Requirements:

  • BS Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science) or other applicable technical degree with 2 years' experience or MS Engineering + 1 year experience
  • Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems
  • Proven understanding of programming concepts and ability to modify existing code (C++, python, etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for solving difficult puzzles.
  • A terrific teammate and an excellent self-starter with a can-do demeanor.
Preferred:

  • Investigation and root cause of robotics systems (e.g., Motion Control, Harmonic Drives. brushless motors, absolute/incremental encoders)
  • Embedded and real-time digital signal root cause (e.g., EtherCAT, SPI, I2C, BiSS-C, MCUs, FPGA's)
  • Integration of sophisticated electromechanical system (e.g., power, data, computing, robotics, and controls)
  • Able to root cause PCB, PCA and Component Level electrical issues.
  • Able to root cause mechanical components (e.g., GD&T, wear, thermal).
