This is an entry-level professional position in learning and assisting with preparation and filing of state income and franchise tax returns, assisting with federal income tax return preparation and assisting with other tax related projects. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned. A teammate in this position must have the ability to:
  • Support the corporate income tax team in preparing and filing state and federal corporate income tax returns utilizing tax return software.
  • Correspond with McLane operating divisions regarding various tax matters.
  • Support property tax manager in various capacities such as preparing property tax renditions; verifying and authorizing property tax payments; and reviewing personal property tax valuations received from the various tax jurisdictions.
  • Assist Tax Manager in the handling of tax audits, notices, appeals, etc. Interpret and apply tax laws, regulations, instructions and other guidance.
  • Gathering various fuel tax related data from McLane divisions and submit them to external company for preparation of required filings.
  • Correspond and resolve any issues for external firm related to fuel tax filings and other requested information. Distribute rejection reports to the divisions for correction.
  • Support with other special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
A teammate in this position must:
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited university. Degree in Business, Computer Science, and/or Math considered.
  • Have 1 to 3 years of work experience in professional work environment
  • Be detail-oriented with solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Be a self-starter and have ability to multi-task
  • Display aptitude for becoming highly proficient with computer applications
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
  • Have excellent organization and documentation skills.
  • Be successful in meeting deadlines.
  • Be committed to meeting deadlines and working in a fast paced and ever-changing environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Office environment.
  • Minimal travel.
