JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Teacher - English Language Learners (ELL)
REPORTS TO: School Principal

JOB GOAL: To teach English to English Language Learners and provide create
optimal educational effective support services which opportunities
for students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must meet applicable federal and state certification/qualification requirements for the position
• Fluent in the English Language
• Experience with teaching English Language Learners (ELL) preferred
• Knowledge of effective strategies for academic and behavior intervention
• Knowledge of state ELL Standards
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
• Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
• Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
2. Assesses student needs and develops an individual plan for each English Language Learner; monitors and updates plans as needed
3. Teaches students utilizing current effective teaching research
4. Consults/collaborates with general education teachers to adapt, accommodate/modify, and differentiate curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of ELL students
5. Provides professional development opportunities to teachers regarding implementation of WIDA Standards and effective teaching strategies for ELL students
6. Administers and/or coordinates the administration of proficiency tests
7. Interprets proficiency test results to teachers
8. Serves as a team member in determining student accommodations, referral, eligibility, placement, and program development
9. Maintains frequent and substantive communication with parents
10. Actively participates in collaborative professional learning communities to increase student achievement and grow professional expertise
11. Actively engages in ongoing, continuous professional learning
12. Uses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policy
13. Practices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools' Acceptable Use Agreement
14. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
15. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
16. Cooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school
17. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
18. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
