Purpose:

The Grid Systems Hardware Group in Energy Science and Technology Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineering Technology Position to support the power electronics and electronic systems in Grid Research Integration and Deployment Center located at the ORNL Hardin Valley Campus. The successful candidate is expected to support the design, development, fabrication, and assembly of experimental test setups and prototypes involving power electronic converters including dc/dc converters, inverters, and rectifiers, electromagnetics, and enclosures. This person will closely work with technical professionals and researchers within the group.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

Work with supervisor to perform the following major tasks:
  • Design: Use CAD tools such as Solid Works to design assembly of components and enclosures.
  • Mechanical Assembly: Use hand/power tools to build/assemble the designed hardware.

Basic Qualifications:
  • An HS Diploma is required.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience.
  • Experience with use of mechanical fabrication tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support team building and leadership.
  • A strong commitment to scientific integrity is an important requirement.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • AS Degree in mechanical/electrical engineering technology or an equivalent combination of education or experience is preferred.
  • Experience related to designing and fabricating electrical systems in preferred.

Special Requirements:
  • Some travel will be required for this position.
  • No clearance is required.
