The WVU Kanawha County Extension Office is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Office Program Assistant.

About the Opportunity

As a Temporary Program Office Assistant, you will provide summer programming and office support to the Kanawha County Extension Office.

PAY GRADE - 13

Assignment Length: Approximately 3.5 month

Work Hours: 30 hours per week

What you'll do:

  • In collaboration with county Extension Agents, determine summer program needs based on county and community needs assessments, observations, and discussions with community leaders, youth, and 4-H volunteers.
  • Provide office support and assistance to county Extension faculty and staff as they provide 4-H summer programming to reach diverse audiences.
  • Establish relationships with the families of youth to build a stronger sense of understanding surrounding the value of the 4-H Youth Development and camping programs. Address family and cultural concerns, barriers, etc.
  • In collaboration with faculty, staff, and the Evaluation and Communication Specialist, assist in facilitating the evaluation of summer programs and activities to identify areas of needed improvement.
  • Develop and distribute age-appropriate materials for camps and other summer programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of leaders in conducting high quality programs.
  • Answer telephone, screen calls and clearly communicate messages to faculty and staff by determining the nature of the call. Respond to inquiries regarding camps and summer programs.
  • Monitor summer program materials and supplies for agents and reorder, when needed.
  • Contact community supporters and volunteers for Extension programs, when requested.
  • Stay current on software and applications related to Extension programs.
  • When requested, provide letters, reports, charts, graphs, manuscripts, forms and memorandums related to summer programs.
  • Attend office group meetings, when necessary.
  • Prepare bulk mailings and distribute flyers and other promotional literature related to camps and summer programs.
  • Inventory, organize, pack, and clearly label curricula, consumables, program supplies, etc. for transport to new office location.


Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent semesters of post-secondary education in youth development, health, science, finances, humanities or a related field, required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience involving:
    • providing office support and assistance
    • working with community organizations and volunteers
    • Communicating (written, oral, formal/informal) with a variety of audiences




Ability to lift 25 lbs.
