Job Summary

MnDOT District 2 is recruiting atemporary snowplow operator positionattheTransportation Generalist classificationinour Baudette Truck Station.

Season dates: October 23, 2024 - April 22, 2025 (we offer some flexibility). Temporary employees have a schedule and work 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, but will also be on a shift for when there is a significant snow event.During a winter snow and ice season,all employees can be split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift) instead of their regular schedule; an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event.Some overtime can occur. All employees will also be on a call-out list for weekends and holiday coverage of snow events.Shift splits and call - outs can occur days, nights, weekends and holidays. This is a temporary position for the winter season, but positions do work a full 40-hour week on a regular basis.

This position exists to perform skilled road maintenance and snow and ice control activities to keep the roadways and roadside safe, clear and in good repair. Functions include:
  • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control
  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment
  • Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup
  • Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing chemical
  • Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management
  • performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

NOTE: Your resume must clearly address the required experience/skills listed below and list your CDL in order to continue in the hiring process.
  • Experience: One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience).

OR
  • Education: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.

AND
  • Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects such as 50-pound bags. This job also may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or let controls. This job will require strenuous manual labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing. A pre-placement physical examination is required for these positions.

Weather elements: May require frequent exposure to weather elements (cold) on a daily basis.

This position is contingent upon the selected job candidate having a valid Commercial Driver's License, submits to a Federal Department of Transportation Pre-employment drug test (with negative test results), is subject to future random drug and alcohol testing and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

New employees must pass a pre-placementdrug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM). A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last five (5) years may disqualify a candidate or three (3) serious traffic violations during any 12 month period of time will disqualify a candidate.
