Job Duties

The Department of Chemistry at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, VA, invites applications to fill a tenure-track appointment in the field of Biochemistry/Bioanalytical chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor (applications for Associate Professor or Full Professor, may also be considered) starting August 1, 2025.

The VMI Chemistry Department has seven tenure-track professors and two technicians, offers the ACS-approved degree in chemistry, and is well-equipped with modern instrumentation (e.g. Rigaku Mini single crystal XRD, DSC, new (2017) 400 MHz NMR, RRDE setup, eQCM, GC/MS, drybox, CE system, UV/Vis and fluorescence plate readers).

Virginia Military Institute is a state-supported four-year undergraduate military college of liberal arts, engineering, and the sciences. It is located in the southern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Lexington, population 7,000, is also home to Washington and Lee University and offers a stimulating cultural atmosphere in a pleasant, rural setting. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities will be general chemistry and courses in their subject area. The new faculty member will develop an undergraduate research program in their field. Startup funds will accompany research laboratory space in our fully renovated (2013) facility.

Additional Considerations

A Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a closely related discipline is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.
