This unique and novel research program is a prestigious strategic research initiative funded by the University through its Prominence-to-Preeminence STEM Targeted Initiatives Fund . The Biocomplexity Institute serves as the program's organizing unit with a broad and comprehensive partnership of the University of Virginia Schools of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), Data Science (SDS), Medicine (SOM), and the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S). This initiative is designed to foster pan-university leadership and excellence in contagion science research and education.

The Role.
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, made in coordination with a tenure-granting school. While the Biocomplexity Institute will serve as the administrative home for this role, the tenure home will be one of the partner schools in an appropriate department and will be determined through applicant review and the interview process. Dependent upon qualifications and experiences, the tenure-track appointment will be associated with one of the following partner schools:
As a part of the role within the Biocomplexity Institute, the contagion science team member will have a unique opportunity to explore the application of multidisciplinary data sciences, network systems modeling, computer science and engineering, machine learning or graph modeling and mining, interfacing with biological and health sciences, as well as social, behavioral, and economic sciences. Complementing individual research activity, incumbents will advance cross-disciplinary educational and training opportunities for diverse audiences, fostering an interest in and an increased understanding of mechanisms and characteristics underlying concepts of contagion.
Qualifications
Requirements.
A Ph.D. in a relevant computational field is required by the start date of the appointment. A commitment to teaching excellence is essential, as is evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. Successful candidates must have an emerging research portfolio in a computational field display and display a general interest in cross-cutting transdisciplinary research areas of relevance. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in funded research, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform service for the institution and professional organizations.
