P-DO is seeking outstanding candidates for the half-time position of Deputy Group Leader (DGL) in P-4, Thermonuclear Plasma Physics. The group's portfolio includes high-energy-density physics (HEDP), inertial confinement fusion (ICF), and discovery plasma science. We perform cutting-edge experiments at the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the OMEGA laser facility at the University of Rochester, Sandia National Laboratory's Z-machine, the Linac Coherent Light Source (SLAC), the Advanced Photon Source (Argonne National Laboratory), Wendelstein-7X, and other national and international facilities.

T he new DGL will be a member of Physics Division Leadership Team who embraces our values and supports our vision. The DGL will assist the P-4 group management team in developing and implementing our strategic plan. The DGL will help ensure staff members perform work safely and securely and with environmental awareness. The DGL will support the group leader in achieving operational excellence, mission execution, project deliverables on time and within budget, and in administrative duties. This is a half-time role, and the successful candidate will spend the other half-time maintaining a thriving technical program that matches or enriches the group's portfolio.

Education/Experience: P osition requires a Bachelor's degree in a physical science or engineering field from an accredited institution and at least five (5) years of relevant job experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. An advanced degree is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with offsite experimental operations at facilities such as NIF, OMEGA, and the Z-machine.
  • Experience with handling abnormal occurrences, such as incident reporting and developing and implementing corrective actions and lessons learned activities
  • Research background in an area relevant to the focus of the group
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q-clearance.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
