Position Summary
The Trade Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of our trade activities comply with applicable US and international trade regulations, export controls, and import/export laws. This role requires a deep understanding of trade compliance within the oil industry, as well as the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
This is an office US based position within Morgan City, LA designated as hybrid work schedules are determined by the manager based on business need.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with all applicable international trade regulations, including export controls, sanctions, and import/export laws.
• Prepare and review export and import documentation, including invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and shipping documents.
• Responsible for interaction with Customs Brokers and freight forwarders to ensure all imports are conducted in accordance with import regulations. Including, but not limited to, providing instruction on manner of import, HTS classifications, FDA, FCC and other documentation.
• Assists the Sr Manager, Global Logistics & Trade Compliance in establishing an import/export compliance improvement philosophy and culture with a strong internal and external customer focus throughout the entire organization.
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal trade compliance policies and procedures.
• Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
• Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to trade compliance policies and identify areas for improvement.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to trade compliance, including potential violations and penalties.
• Act as a liaison with government agencies, customs authorities, and external auditors to address trade compliance matters.
• Prepare and submit required reports and filings to regulatory agencies in a timely manner.
• Stay current with changes in trade regulations and update internal processes accordingly.
• Maintains all appropriate import/export related data for products within the PeopleSoft database (e.g., HTS, ECCN, COO, HAZMAT).
• Ensures that all proper export documentation is prepared to facilitate the export of all goods and submits same to appropriate transportation providers.
• Extensive knowledge of the HTS code and can self-classify products in many cases or with the help of technical.
• Working knowledge of the ECCN classification process.
• Is very familiar with the provisions of the EAR and helps support, from an operational perspective, the division's compliance program. Helps obtain appropriate licensing as required by the government through coordination with the Corporate resources.
• Communicate regularly with warehouse, freight forwarders, and transportation to coordinate the movement of material.
• Provide accurate hazardous material certificates when shipping hazardous products
• Provide required certificates of compliance (fumigation, wood content, etc.) for exporting product.
• Maintain high level of knowledge of international trade regulations to ensure consistent compliance with laws. Is intimately familiar with the regulations of the countries to which the business unit routinely ships.
• Maintains copies of all import and export records as required by law.
• Assists with AES filings if required.
• All other duties assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
• Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management with emphasis in supply chain, business, or a related field.
• Minimum Five (5) years related experience in trade compliance, preferably within the oil and gas industry.; or combination of education and experience.
• In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, export control, and import/export laws.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work with cross-cultural organizations and groups.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and PeopleSoft ERP System is a plus.
DESIRED
• Gas & Oil industry experience preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) are a plus.
• Experience in the management of international freight and logistics to include packaging, crating, shipping modes, shipping lanes, customs, insurance and inspections.
• Familiarization with international standards and surety organizations (ISO, DNV, ABS, USCG).
