Trade & Working Capital Solutions: Structuring, Doc Trade Specialist - Global Transaction Banking (GTB) - Associate / Vice President

Role Description:

  • Structuring, pricing, and execution of Doc trade transactions for SCIB clients of Santander US.
  • Act as advisor, consultant, and first point of contact for clients structuring deals based on clients LC needs and managing a portfolio of clients across all sectors to meet their business needs.
  • Engage in the legal document negotiation of new and existing transactions in the Doc Trade portfolio.
  • Support the origination team to win mandates for the Doc Trade business by providing advices to meet the client's needs.
  • Assist in the internal approval process with the risk department.
  • Monitoring the MO activities while executing new LC issuances ensuring that the facilities are utilized.


Essential Functions/Responsibility Statements:

  • Contribute to the creation and future development of the Santander's Doc Trade business capabilities.
  • Grow business through developing new relationships and by maintaining and enhancing existing revenue streams.
  • Coordinate stakeholders both internal (CDD, Compliance, Risks, Legal, IT, Compliance, Operations, etc.) and external (Legal firms, Insurers, brokers, etc.) to provide a best-in-class service and seamless end to end execution including the execution of the issuances of LCs handled by MO/Ops.
  • Ensure understanding of the Bank's operating practices and governance and ensure these are followed in line with the guidelines.
  • Provide pricing / market intelligence to transactions, ensuring transaction profitability in line with the Bank's capital models presenting to the relevant committees, where applicable.
  • Perform first line of defense role for the bank across all risks: Financial/ Credit, Legal, Reputational, Regulatory, Compliance, etc.
  • Reporting to senior management regarding the progress of the commercial agenda.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent degree and/or work experience, in Business, Finance, a related equivalent field.


Work Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Doc. Trade business.


Skills and Abilities:

Essential

  • Familiarity with Doc Trade rules including UCP, ISP and URDG and Uniform Commercial Code Art. 5.
  • Experience with the legal execution and design of reimbursement agreements and/or other legal documentation.
  • Familiarity with both EU and US banking regulation, particularly as it relates to corporate and financial institution exposures and risk-weighted asset calculations.
  • Knowledge of credit risk evaluation techniques for both corporates and financial institutions.
  • High motivation, proactivity, and accomplished business origination skills.
  • High level of presentation and organizational skill.
  • Understanding the competitive market and the role of technology within Trade Finance.
  • Capability to develop relationships inside the organization to collaborate across geographical boundaries.
  • English language proficiency.


Desirable

  • Leveraged finance and Agencies guarantees (USDA, EXIM, etc.) experience.
  • Additional languages (particularly Spanish).
  • Previous exposure to operational Trade Finance areas (Middle Office, Back Office, Legal).
  • Experience in the syndication of trade finance assets to buy-side investors.
  • Certification of documentary credit specialist.
