Four years of full-time experience in the plumbing trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager 1 in charge of maintenance for Olana and Clermont State Historic Sites, the Trades Generalist's duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Perform journey-level work in the primary trade of plumbing with a focus in HVAC at Clermont State Historic Site and Olana State Historic Site.
• Work across a variety of trades, including carpentry, electrical, masonry, and painting, as well as the primary trade of plumbing/HVAC to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks.
• Display a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the respective trade.
• Plan and lay out work following blueprints, specifications, other instructions and order material and equipment as needed.
• Perform carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, masonry, and/or painting repairs including roofing and structural repairs, finish work, window and door restoration, masonry restoration, and skilled painting that will preserve or restore the original fabric of historic buildings and structures.
• Read building plans; diagnose problems; supply rough sketches to scale for work to be performed; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects; and have a working knowledge of modern safety and practices and code compliance.
• Use the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate to the assigned trade.
• Coordinate and execute projects, and work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate lower-level staff.
• Additional duties as operationally needed.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must be able to work occasional weekend, evening, or holiday on as needed basis.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have working knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to materials used and safety regulations pertaining to fall protection.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy lifting.
• Must have a collegial and cooperative attitude, a dedication to complete projects in a timely manner, and as the need arises, an ability to interact professionally and helpfully with the public and partner organizations.
