Why does the job exist?

This position exits to provide entrepreneurial development services such as basic entrepreneur training, business counseling, and resource partner referrals to veterans and their eligible spouses, transitioning service members, National Guard and Reserve members interested in starting or growing a small business. This position will create course curriculum for business development and will create specialized courses and/or course material as needed, based on the demand for specific training. This position will assist the VBOC Director with teaching courses and will be part of the Boots to Business workshops, ensure that agency policies and procedures are followed, develop and monitor performance standards, create and implement outreach activities, collaborate with resource partners and stakeholders and develop long and short-term programmatic goals.

How does it get done?

This position will manage the Boots to Business Training program and outreach in coordination of the VBOC Director. Will conduct in-person and virtual trainings; either independently or as part of the VBOC team to assist veterans with the business creation and development process; instruct curriculum for business courses in an adult learning environment, create course material and presentations for workshops/courses at various military installations and as part of the Veterans Business Outreach Center's services; perform one on one business counseling to assist with development of business ideas for clients ; perform outreach services and be an SBA resource representative to provide third party referrals to outside agencies such as the Small Business Administration, SBA Resource Partners, USDA and others; Assist with the grant administration to meet the obligations of the funding from the US Small Business Administration. Assist with organizing and hosting a special event. Maintains knowledge of current business trends and developments in the field by attending in-service training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature in related technical fields. Attain professional development certifications to increase the deliverables of a business advisor. Create and prepare reporting to VBOC Director, NMDVS agency heads, and granting agency; document outcomes and expectations, maintain records of activities to quantify deliverables and outcomes. Ability to access military installations is required.

Who are the customers?

The customers for this position are New Mexico's veteran population, transitioning servicemen/women, National Guard, and Reserve members and eligible spouses. Additionally, territories and personnel assigned to the grant by the Small Business Administration.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone with excellent customer service and computer skills, able to multitask, has the ability to travel extensively, and is well organized. The ideal candidate is someone with business development knowledge, able to read financial statements, able to do financial forecasting, assist with business plan development and has experience in public speaking, and public presentations. Previous business ownership is preferred. Spanish speaking/writing is preferred. Veterans' preference provided.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, and/or producing instructional aids/materials. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must be able to travel throughout the State of New Mexico and gain access to military installations. Some out of state travel is required for training and professional development.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
