The role you'll contribute:

Practices in accordance with philosophy, policies, procedures and standards AdventHealth for Children; functions within the guidelines of the protocols for the Transport program that are reviewed and agreed on by the Neonatal and Pediatric Medical Director and Transport Manager. Identifies, plans, implements and evaluates emergency care for acutely ill neonatal and pediatric patients in collaboration with the Medical team for the receiving neonatal or pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Provides family-centered care, including psychosocial support, education, and transfer planning in conjunction with referral staff. Maintains effective communication with referral staff and families. Participates in educating staff from referring facilities through informal teaching and planned educational classes and/or conferences.

  • Transports neonatal patients going to a nursery or a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction and precepting and serves as a resource person to lower-level therapists. Performs other duties as requested by department leadership.
  • Responds to all Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR. Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor. Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, intubations/extubations, assisting with tracheostomy insertions, performing tracheostomy changes, assisting with bronchoscopy, airway suctioning and procedural respiratory support.
  • Properly utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team to determine efficacy of therapy. Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery per protocol. Obtains, analyzes and reports findings of blood gases and co-oximetry. Performs quality controls as needed. Sets up and performs oximetry apnea, TC, and ETCO 2 monitoring.
  • Initiates, maintains, transports, and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation and transport ventilation. Reviews chest radiological reports as necessary per supervisor and policy and procedures.
  • Delivers neonatal resuscitation and assists with APGAR scoring at delivery per NRP guidelines. Performs artificial surfactant replacement. Maintains proper equipment in labor/delivery/perinatal/ pediatric areas.


Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
  • Requires a minimum of 2,000 hours of Neonatal ICU experience (per Florida State Rule 64J)
  • Requires at least one year of pediatric critical care experience
  • Current valid State of Florida license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
