Transportation Technician

The University of Virginia's Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) is seeking candidates for a Transportation Technician. Transportation technicians are responsible for general transportation of laboratory animals and other departmental goods (and equipment) across vivaria on Grounds.

Duties include:

• Generating delivery reports (candidate must be proficient in using computers)
  
• General transportation of animals across vivaria on Grounds (i.e., accepting, sorting, and executing vendor deliveries amongst specific buildings/vivaria)
  
• Transportation of CCM staff for general departmental needs (i.e., transport to UVA WorkMED and other facilities for daily task)
  
• Transportation of equipment, food & bedding, and other departmental goods upon request
  
• Transportation of CCM staff uniforms for delivery and laundering (i.e., scrubs, PPE)
  
• Oversee general preventive maintenance and upkeep of CCM owned transportation vehicles (i.e., oil changes, cleaning, state inspection, keeping vehicles fueled, and other general repairs)
  
• Maintenance and upkeep of CCM loading dock areas
  
• Maintain record keeping for all vehicle/transportation related regulatory requirements (i.e., vehicle sanitation logs)
  
• Keeping up to date and following all animal related transportation regulations and welfare policies (i.e., International Air transport Association-IATA, Public Health Policy-PHS, and Animal Welfare Act-AWA)
  
• Assisting facilities team with inventory management (animals, goods, and equipment)
  
• Any other task and duties seen fit by CCM administration pertaining to driving, transportation, and equipment inventory activities
  

Minimum Requirements

• Education: GED/High School Diploma required.
  
• Experience: two years of related experience in driving
  
• Licensure: Valid Driver's License with zero or positive points balance.
  
• Vaccination : This position requires compliance with UVA Health Policy OCH-002 .
  

Anticipated Hiring Range: $17 - $25 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Physical Demands: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
