Tutor - Math, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), College Access Program

Overview: To provide academic assistance to Student Support Services participants in both individual and small group tutoring sessions in the subject areas of pre-Math and College Math through Calculus.

Funding for this position is contingent on annual grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education and is subject to annual renewal by the U.S. Department of Education .

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist students in various academic areas of math in small group or individualized tutoring sessions to help them further understand mathematical concepts.
  • Possess a passion for helping students learn and have knowledge and math skills.
  • Have good interpersonal skills to interact with students of all ages and levels of learning.
  • Must have a positive attitude and have patience to work with a diverse student population.
  • Maintain weekly tutoring logs with students' tutoring time and any notes that will be submitted to a TRIO SSS Program Representative.
  • Enter tutoring data into SSS program software (BLUMEN).
  • Confer with SSS Academic Coaches, as needed, concerning student progress/challenges.
  • Follow-up and meet with teachers and other program and College personnel, if required

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience as a tutor of mathematics in secondary and/or post-secondary education.
  • Experience constructing, conducting and assessing mathematics exercises and activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Community College teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Experience working in a Math Center or Tutoring Center.
