Tutor - TRiO: Traditional Upward Bound (TUB)

Overview:

Cincinnati State administers TRiO grant programs, funded by the Department of Education (DOE). We are actively seeking for one experienced tutor who can deliver quality support and engagement with both high school students who plan to attend college and college students enrolled at Cincinnati State in a community college setting. The TRiO program is the Traditional Upward Bound (TUB).

Primary Areas of Tutoring may include: Math, Science, Statistics, Accounting, Finance, Computer Basics and related software programs such as Microsoft Office suite, learning management systems, etc.

This position is funded in full by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) TRiO grant, and contingent upon meeting grant outcomes related to participant performance and success. Funding is subject to annual review and approval by the DOE.

Location for Services:

The TUB program primarily operates at Mount Healthy High School, 8101 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45231

Hours for Tutoring and related services (subject to change each semester/school year)

Monday - 1:30-4:30 pm (TUB), 3 hours

Tuesday - 1:30- 4:30 pm (TUB), 3 hours

Thursday - 1:30-4:30 (TUB), 3 hours

Friday - 1:00 - 3:00 pm (TUB at Clifton campus) data collection, reporting, planning, and evaluation, 2 hours

Total hours 11

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • To support student success in academic areas through individualized instruction or small groups tutoring
  • To capture and accurately record services and outcomes in an online database, documenting progress of each student in each academic area. Report progress, concerns, opportunities, and challenges
  • To confer with program staff and key school/college personnel as needed
  • Confer with program staff on student updates, progress, services, and challenges.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Math, Science, Business, Finance, or Secondary Education with an emphasis in one or more of these areas of discipline
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to the 2 service locations (mileage reimbursed at standard IRS rates)
  • Computer competency in all Microsoft suite of applications (WORD, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and database portals

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • One Year tutoring (or teaching) high school or college students in one of the following areas: algebra, calculus, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, finance, business, etc.

Desired Competencies:
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse population in an urban setting; experience as and/or working with first generation college students

Reports to: Assistant Directors of Student Support Services and Traditional Upward Bound

Hourly rate: $20

Classification: Non-exempt

Status: Part-time working no more than 29 hours per week
