Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under minimal supervision, with latitude for independent judgment to perform ultrasound exam within department protocols

Areas of responsibilities:
Radiology Ultrasound

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Review of patient information and referral.
• Review medical information and interprets ultrasound requisitions accurately.
• Follows accepted radiology protocol for all exams performed.
• Complies with Infection Control policies and procedures, fire and
• Medical Emergency protocols, conforms to policies governing patient abuse,
• patient rights and confidentiality of information (HIPAA)
• Ensure 2 patient identifier is used to identify patients
2. Documentation
• Control log of examinations performed
• Explanation of procedures to the patient
• Record relevant medical history for the Interpreting Radiologist.
• Ensure documentation of examinations in PACS/EMR systems.
3. Equipment Utilization and Maintenance
• Monitors ultrasound equipment functionally, and report any dysfunction in a timely manner.
• Utilize equipment in a safe and productive manner.
• Observes and reports any malfunctioning of the equipment to Supervisor.
4. Quality Control/Quality Assurance
• Ensures ultrasound examinations are of optimal quality and patients' information is recorded accurately.
• Proficient with positioning to obtain desirable images, communicate with reading radiologist.
• Participates in departmental monthly QA meetings.
5. Technical Development
• Participate in departmental and hospital based in service programs.
• Enhance technical skills by engaging in ultrasound seminars/conferences annually.
• Maintains current certification, licensure and education requirement
6. Environment
• Maintain exam room daily ensure supplies are available (Gel, probe cover, etc.)
• Ensure patient have clean gowns and used gowns are stored

Minimum Qualifications
1. Completion of a Sonography or Ultrasound training program from an accredited school.

Abdomen, Pelvic, OB Transvaginal, Kidney, Thyroid, Liver, Scrotum, Lower Extremity, Breast

EQUIPMENT/MACHINES OPERATED:
Computers, ultrasound Unit - Philip/ GE

COMPUTER PROGRAMS/SOFTWARE OPERATED:
RIS, EPIC, Outlook

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5 years in healthcare setting and proficient with scanning of ultrasound procedures
