Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist, Technical Supervisor or Lead Technologist performs radiographic procedures on patients whose condition requires specialized expertise at a technical level not requiring supervision of technical detail but will require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation according to ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). This position will support the VISION, MISSION AND VALUE STATEMENTS OF Harlem Hospital by providing for interdisciplinary cooperation in the provision of timely/courteous service to our customers, reduction in turn-around-time, and for the compassionate care and treatment of each patient in an environment sensitive to pain management.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform radiologic procedures by selecting the proper technical factors and performing the appropriate quality control for optimal diagnostic imaging.
  • Ensure patient readiness for procedure, completion of consent (as necessary) prior to the procedure and education of patient to the study to be performed.
  • Determine pregnancy status of female patient and take proper steps in performing the procedure.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing personnel to ensure the safe movement of patient from wheelchair and stretcher and offer assistance to ambulatory patients.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities: suggest projects for PI activity.
  • Assist in the orientation of new hires and training of students from the School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Will be required to rotate through weekends and holidays: must be able to accept assignment through all sections of routine Diagnostic Radiology such as E.R., O.R., Portable and Prep. cases.
  • Ensure the maintenance of Shift Log and the appropriate documentation of occurrences.
  • Must report incidents/accidents as soon as possible to the supervisor and or other appropriate personnel.
  • Must follow safety and infection control procedures.
  • Promote a positive and pleasant attitude conducive to the workplace to further enhance the Mission Vision and Values of the institution.
  • Meet all compliance standards/requirements such as EHS guidelines for annual physical assessment/evaluation. Annual in-service Training, Right-to-Know, Fire Drill participation, etc.
  • Adhere to the Vision, Mission and Values Statements of the Organization in all endeavors.
  • Conforms and adheres to departmental/hospital guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to departmental attendance and punctuality standards.


Minimum Qualifications

Assignment Level II
  1. Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
