Schedule: Emergency Department. Per diem. Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.

Must be a current nursing student who has completed fundamentals of nursing or an equivalent med/surg clinical.

The Unit Service Tech RN Student provides direct and indirect care to patients to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care. Under the supervision of the Clinical Leader/Charge Nurse/Nursing Director the Unit Service Tech RN Student performs various clinical duties. The Unit Service Tech RN Student provides a broad range of care and services to patients, including but not to limited to, phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, supporting procedures within their scope, patient transport, securing equipment and supplies, and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. They will also perform a wide range of secretarial duties and perform 1:1 sitting when necessary. The Unit Service Tech RN Student will also assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be a current Nursing Student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surgical clinical rotation.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required.
  • Experience as a medical Tech or patient care assistant preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, physically taxing environment.
  • Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
  • Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language.
  • Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements, to measure height and weight, intake and output and calorie counts.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information.
  • Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift.
  • Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands, for the patient populations regularly served.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues and changing hospital climate and personnel issues.
