Job Description

30% Study Team Recruitment Support:

This position will work closely with the Principal Investigators (PI) and study teams within CPC to support trial marketing and enrollment plans for CPC and NCORP-MU studies. This position is not intended to directly recruit participants for CPC research studies, whether clinical trials or other, but will rather act as an ambassador for CPC/NCORP-MU research, providing information on ongoing studies and offering referral information as requested. There is an expectation that the position maintains current knowledge of existing CPC/NCORP-MU research studies, including meeting with separate investigators to identify their unique challenges and opportunities for improved community involvement. Examples of some recruitment efforts may include administrative support of recruitment activities such as independently managing the scheduling of one-on-one and group-based health and wellness coaching sessions within clinical practice and research studies. The position may support the study team in setting up study subject stipend and reimbursement and assuring seamless provision of subject stipends after subject enrollment. Other activities may include working with HCC Communication leaders to announce and market new CPC/NCORP-MU trial activation or to facilitate the creation of new videoboards or news stories. It is important that the liaison can effectively communicate to health providers and patients/ community participants about HCC trial opportunities in a professional and culturally competent manner.

25% Study Community Outreach and Engagement:

This position will work collaboratively and consult regularly with CPC, CTO and HCC Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) faculty and staff to provide updates and develop strategies for optimizing engagement within and among underserved communities throughout the catchment area (South Carolina). This position may travel to support community events or projects to raise clinical research awareness throughout South Carolina and serve as a liaison to help potential study participants or referring providers find HCC CPC/NCORP-MU clinical trial opportunities and triage specific requests for study information. Examples of some outreach activities include travel, when applicable, to federally qualified health clinics, other medical clinics, churches, community events, and other community outreach sites to represent CPC science, educate community residents and patients on the science of clinical trials, and evaluate needs of the community. Under the guidance of the HCC COE, the position is expected to establish relationships with counterparts within community (non-profits, patient/survivor advocacy), religious organizations and other healthcare organizations (including FQHCs and free clinics) to help expand clinical research outreach efforts and evaluate and understand the needs of community members in the catchment area related to healthy behaviors or cancer prevention. This position will facilitate bi-directional community input for ongoing and emergent CPC research by helping PIs identify opportunities to serve community members in the catchment area including presentations that link research and community leaders, increase community health education or link medically underserved communities and HCC programs across South Carolina. This position may also provide administrative support for Cancer Prevention and Control, CTO or COE research retreats as they pertain to community stakeholders.

25% Study Recruitment Information Dissemination and Reporting:

This position will prepare and maintain an up-to-date summary of the research portfolio across Cancer Prevention and Control and NCORP-MU (which may include professional brochures, videos, PowerPoint presentations, or 1pg study summaries), particularly those studies that involve clinical trials. This role will help ensure that HCC study webpages and study information within the HCC clinical trials mobile app are up to date and relevant. Quality assurance checks may be essential in verifying with PI’s that study status and study eligibility per the IRB approved trial are accurate within the mobile app, webpages, or other brochures and summaries. This position will work with study personnel to monitor metrics of study accrual at each milestone (screening, consent, enrollment, retention), to assess any potential biases that inhibit study enrollment (e.g., if any demographic subgroups differentially respond at any step of the study enrollment process). This position may also be responsible for the collection and recording of additional metrics along with the presentation of those metrics with COE, CPC/CTO leadership, and PIs so that leadership can effectively assess the impact of recruitment initiatives. The recording of metrics must be accurate and timely and effectively stored within the clinical trial management system (CTMS) database or other approved systems. The ability to utilize excel or other statistical programs will be essential as some analysis of recruitment performance metrics is needed.

20% Administrative and Special Project Duties

New special projects or grant opportunities may arise in which this position may be involved in administratively supporting. Other potential responsibilities may include the evaluation of study materials used to support education and training programs; participation in regular team meetings, continuing education, and peer activities. Administrative support for special projects and other ad hoc assignments in support of HCC.
