Job Description Summary
This candidate will work directly with Drs. Lindsay Squeglia, Kathryn Gex, and Anna Kirkland as the Education Content Specialist (ECS) with the Youth Collaborative at the Medical University of South Carolina. The candidate’s main responsibility will be to support the development, evaluation, and implementation of neuroscience-based substance use prevention programs provided by the lab. One of the interactive psychosocial programs, Just Say Know, aims to provide students, ages 12-25, with scientific knowledge on how substance use influences their developing brain to help guide their own decisions and behaviors. Just Say Know has shown evidence of changing youths’ perceptions of substance use and decreasing their intent to use substances. The ECS will provide advice and support related to selection, adaptation, and use of learning technologies/techniques for adolescent learners, and ensure the program meets project goals while aligning with best educational practices. This position requires a dynamic individual with strong communication skills, a creative mindset, and a passion for promoting positive youth development.

After-hours and weekend work is required, depending on community outreach event schedules. Travel around the local Charleston area is also required. A partial/hybrid remote work plan may be considered for this candidate.

Job Description

FLSA: Salaried

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM; After-hours and weekend work is required, depending on community outreach event schedules. A partial/hybrid remote work plan may be considered for this candidate.

Job Duties:

30% - Develop, promote, integrate, and support MUSC Youth Collaborative Programs
  • Works independently to create and maintain instructional content and reference guides to support the integration and delivery of program.
  • Oversees and manages school engagement, community outreach, promotion, education initiatives, and recruitment for programs.
  • Responsible for developing interactive and engaging presentations to showcase the programs of the Youth Collaborative.
  • Ensures curriculum is based on assessment data and culturally responsive practices.
  • Solicits input and feedback from instructors, community members, school contacts, and students on the direction of the program.
  • Assists in data collection and development of program evaluation surveys, curriculum surveys, and establishes and leads focus groups to support program growth.
  • Advises and provides creative and appropriate solutions to study team members based on their specific instructional goals.
  • Monitors and incorporates ongoing developments in the research of adolescent substance use and maintains a high level of instructional design knowledge.


30% - Facilitate collaborative working relationships with Youth Collaborative team members and instructors while identifying areas for improvements in the existing courses and opportunities to implement new ways of learning to further the development of programs.
  • Prioritizes regular content reviews and updates.
  • Participates in reviews of program evaluations for revision and refinement.
  • Provides consultation and advice to study team members and instructors on revisions and updates to program content based on feedback and ever-evolving best practices.
  • Conducts quality assurance testing of all program materials before the course is made available to students and community members.
  • Works closely with study team members, instructors and others (in person and remotely) to design, develop, and support high-quality online, hybrid, and face-to-face programs.
  • •Lead and organize program meetings. Prepare reports and provide updates on project progress.


25% - Strategic Communication, Event Promotion, and Community Presence
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans for the Just Say Know Program and others within the Youth Collaborative, aligning with organizational goals and initiatives while following MUSC IRB policies.
  • Collaborate with team members and partnering teams to identify key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.
  • Create and curate compelling content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media posts, and multimedia materials, to effectively communicate the team’s impact and accomplishments.
  • Develops promotional materials for physical and social spaces, including maintaining the program websites. Focus will be on establishing and maintaining contacts and relationships with community organizations in South Carolina that serve diverse and/or underserved communities.
  • Plans, promotes, and supports events related to Youth Collaborative programs, such as presentations, workshops, seminars, conferences, and community outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure event success and maximum attendance.
  • Familiarize self with the inclusion and exclusion criteria of all Youth Collaborative research studies to properly target desired demographics.
  • Maintains updated and ongoing contact list of all program contacts and vendors.


10% - Provide consultative support for program managers, coordinators, and learners
  • Organizes trainings on new presentations, programs, systems, and technologies as needed.
  • Contributes to overall evaluation of learning offerings and identification of new opportunities for training.
  • Guides program coordinators and instructors in creating accessible and engaging content based on audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
