Job Description Summary
The position of Neuro-X Lab research coordinator involves the screening, recruitment and enrollment of research participants. Duties will revolve around the administration of experimental brain stimulation technologies to healthy and diseased populations, as well as the collection of psychological, neuroimaging, and biological research data, data entry, and organizational tasks for the studies being conducted in the MUSC Neuro-X Lab within Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The research coordinator will be responsible for maintaining regulatory and training documents as required by Federal, State, Local, Institutional protocol regulations and policies. Lastly, the research coordinator will provide administrative/technical assistance for Neuro-X faculty, internal/external audits, and publication and dissemination of research findings.

Job Description

FLSA: Hourly

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM

Job Duties:
  • 35% - Conduct data collection and data entry into study database and maintain study binders and other regulatory files. Specifically, the Research Specialist will be responsible for carrying out study activities like administering brain stimulation and filling out participant data forms. Additionally, the Research Specialist will be required to develop and maintain study databases for collecting and storing study data. The Research Specialist will also be responsible for creating and storing all study documents and ensuring that all study related materials are maintained following regulatory protocols.
  • 25% - Assist with the recruitment of research participants and the collection of behavioral, physiological and brain imaging data through telephone interviews and onsite clinic recruitment. The Research Specialist will be responsible for implementing recruitment procedures specifically as it relates to research subject identification through registries, electronic medical records, advertising, mailing letters and telephone.
  • 25% - Provide clerical and administrative assistance to lab director, including scheduling, inventory management, maintaining research calendars, and organizing documents for all study related regulatory requirements.
  • 10% - Work with researchers, clinicians, and patients in clinical and community settings to implement research projects in the Neuro-X Lab. The Research Specialist will be responsible for organizing community outreach activities, developing community educational materials, and conducting data collection activities.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.


Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology or social science or quantitative field is preferred. Experience on federally-funded research studies and/or pharmaceutical trials is preferred. Experience in psychometric instruments and basic working knowledge of computer-based information systems is required. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures is required. Excellent time management skills and attention to detail required. Ability to present information effectively in both written and verbal form is required. Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement and discretion is required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others is required.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and four years of relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
