Position Summary
The University Police Officer 3 will perform the duties of any subordinate officer, supervises, directs, and coordinates the assignments of University Police Officers, Lieutenants, Investigators, and other University Police Department staff; assists with police operations and special events within the Department and communicates orders, information, and instructions.

The University Police Officer 3 will work on various activities but will not be limited to assisting the command staff on assignments and projects.

Duties Include:

  • Supports the Command staff;
  • Assists with the management of all police and security activities for the Department;
  • Facilitates scheduling and assigns department personnel to effectively and efficiently utilize staff and ensure adequate security coverage;
  • May alter schedules to provide coverage of anticipated periods of peak demands for law enforcement and security services;
  • Evaluates the performance of staff and makes recommendations regarding performance evaluations; probationary or other terminations;
  • May conduct and supervise internal investigations;
  • Assist with coordinating special event coverage;
  • Assist with the procurement of uniforms and equipment;
  • Determines the need for training and assigns and selects staff for participation;
  • Recommends changes in policies, rules, and regulations
  • May be assigned to tabulate statistical data, prepare reports, and collaborate with other agencies to accomplish law enforcement goals;
  • May attend meetings at the request of the Chief of Police or other command staff.
  • Supervise dispatchers;
  • Support accreditation, policy development, and standards compliance;
  • Work on presentations and University Police project development
  • Crime prevention development for implementation
  • Liaison with on and off-campus safety and security stakeholders, student life, and law enforcement partners. Develops and maintains a close working relationship with other police and security forces.

2. Reassignment requirement: You must hold the same title at the University at Buffalo.
3. Reinstatement requirement: You must be a former state employee to request reinstatement to the title that was held (or transferable title).
