Job Summary:

The Division of Urology at the University of Colorado has an opening for a full-time Advance Practice Provider (APP), either a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), hired at the faculty rank of instructor, to join our dynamic urology team with a focus on urologic oncology. The primary responsibilities will include outpatient and inpatient assessment, patient education, care coordination and disease management as well as the provision of urologic consultation to other services. Close collaboration with the surgeons, resident staff and hospital staff will be necessary. This position will serve as an integral part of the Urology team providing care to a general patient population while on the Urology Service and during all transitions of care.

This position will primarily serve the urologic oncology outpatient population but will be expected to serve the inpatient population as needed.

Supervision Received:

The APP works under the direct supervision of the full-time faculty or designee at the University of Colorado Hospital School of Medicine's Division of Urology Division in the Department of Surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the APP may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Evaluate and manage patients who are candidates for Urology care and/or surgery. This includes obtaining a thorough history and performing an appropriate physical examination and ordering appropriate testing as well as management of patients with post-operative complications. Monitoring overall care and providing education about the risks and benefits of the surgical procedures is also expected.
  • See and evaluate patients in the hospital, provide documentation, an assessment and care plan for outpatient and inpatient stay and discharge care planning.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with urgent or emergent complaints in conjunction with the primary surgery.
  • These duties will include outpatient and inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination and disease management.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and emails and provide consultation.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care for patients between physician visits.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Support and uphold established organizational policies, procedures, objective related to quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Provide urologic outpatient and inpatient consultation in collaboration with faculty member and residents.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Auroa, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Masters degree in Nursing required, or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant school.
  • Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse/ Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
  • Meets and maintains the requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board for the Advanced Practice Nurse/ Physician Assistant.
  • Current license, or eligibility to obtain, a license to practice as a professional nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Colorado.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year prior experience in surgical subspecialty or outpatient care.
  • Previous experience in urologic clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in outpatient surgical care.
  • One year experience as an APP

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$99,008 - $132,662

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
