Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 108.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Sunday; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Utility Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants and the City's lift stations as well as the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection lines. They must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies and resolves operating issues at the facility
  • Prioritizes and coordinates staffing needs for the facility
  • May act as subject matter expert for the division in the absence of the manager
  • Oversees the analysis and monitoring of the potable wastewater treatment system processes
  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of process equipment at assigned facility
  • Conducts regular tours of facility
  • Understands wastewater processes and records management
  • Regulates and adjusts processes to meet changing operational needs
  • Oversees the collection, preservation, and storage of samples for laboratory analysis
  • Participates and implements various program initiatives
  • Participates in budget development
  • Reviews job performance of staff
  • Leads and participates in troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
  • Performs advanced level process control measurements and testing
  • Acts as "shift" leader
  • Determines coagulant dosage based on jar test results
  • Ensures compliance with TCEQ regulation
  • Reviews and enters data used for completing the SWMOR, DMR, and MER
  • Orders chemicals
  • Sets, corrects, and adjusts chemical dosages
  • Produces reports
  • Makes process control decisions
  • Performs internal compliance audits
  • Serves as technical reviewer for treatment related SOP's
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Requires High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience
  • Class B Wastewater Treatment Operator license required at time of hire
  • Class A Wastewater Treatment Operator license preferred
  • Class B CDL required within one (1) year of hire
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
