Job Duties

The Victim/Witness Specialist is responsible for providing direct services and support to victims and witnesses in criminal appeals, habeas corpus, and writs of actual innocence cases. Duties include timely notifications of court proceedings, scheduling meetings between attorneys and victims for interviews, accompanying victims to court, and making appropriate referrals for services as needed and requested. Assist with travel requests for victims and witnesses traveling in and out of state to testify during court proceedings and maintain victim contacts in case files in the LawBase and Worldox document system. This position requires frequent in-state travel and occasional out-of-state travel.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a minimum of five years of experience working with crime victims, local law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocates.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and have experience training a variety of audiences.
  • Experience working with underserved populations and extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system is required.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated computer proficiency with word processing (Microsoft products preferred).
Additional Considerations

It is preferred that applicants have a graduate degree in one of the following areas: social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, public administration, education, mass communications or related subject; or equivalent experience.

Experience in appellate advocacy is preferred.

Although not required, fluency in Spanish is a plus.
