Video Codec Research Engineer - Platform Architecture
Cupertino, California
Summary
Do you love crafting elegant solutions to highly complex challenges? Are you a big-picture visionary who understands how each element affects all the others? At Apple, our Architecture group is responsible for connecting our hardware and software into one unified system. In this team, you will have the opportunity to work on video codec standardization with a product angle; you will collaborate both with Apple's video codec architects, software and hardware engineers, and also with cross-company standardization organizations to ensure that the gains promised by the future video compression standards will be achievable in real-life power constrained products such as laptops, phones and watches. You will work with the video codec architects to develop novel algorithms to solve complex encoder search space optimization problems.
Description
As a Video Codec Research Engineer, you will have responsibilities spanning various aspects of video codec standardization and deployment:
• Develop methods for assessing and benchmarking complexity for future video codec standardization
• Participate in the next generation compression technology standardization to define and design complexity and cost reduction techniques and hardware-friendly algorithms
• Develop new video encoder algorithms suitable for hardware implementations, such as search space pruning, rate estimation, motion estimation, mode decision, rate-distortion optimization, perceptual quality optimization
• Develop scripts and automation for codec complexity evaluation, and conduct video complexity evaluations
