Description: Job Summary:

The Vice President reports directly to the Senior Vice President, National Shared Services Operations ("Senior Vice President"), and administers a national program that proactively manages system-wide enabling capabilities for Kaiser Permanente's facilities lifecycle process (plan, acquire, operate, maintain) to achieve targeted outcomes at industry leading performance levels that are:

Operational Functional: effectively support core business operational requirements,

Materially Ready: provide safe, reliable, well-maintained spaces and extend facility life,

Brand Enhancing: promote an exceptional member, patient, and staff experience,

Lowest lifecycle cost: deliver all the above at the lowest unit cost.

Additionally, the Vice President must establish and maintain relationships with regional and other national executive leaders necessary to implement national facilities operations, maintenance and energy standards and programs.

This position consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanentes Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures.Where facilities compliance is involved, the Vice President is accountable to the Senior Vice President for identification, reporting, resolution and escalation of compliance issues.Ensures compliance by actively participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of effective policies, standards, practices and procedures. For facilities managed by National Shared Services Operations ("NSSO"), they provide leadership for local/state fire authority and other regulatory/accreditation agency visits involving facility concerns. For regionally managed facilities, provides coordination and technical support for these visits. Responsible for achieving KP facilities operations and maintenance goals at both national and regional levels in accordance with company policies, rules, and regulatory mandates.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Vice President will develop, operationalize, and maintain a systematic approach to operating and maintaining all KP owned and leased properties, including 622 medical office buildings, 39 hospitals, and 200 support facilities, with a combined 93 million square feet of structured space.

  • The Vice President:

  • Owns system-wide responsibility and accountability to lead one of the three macro lifecycle business lines (Plan, Acquire, Operate)

  • Leads system-facing Facilities Operations and Maintenance Center of Excellence that develops strategies, methods, tools, processes, standards, information systems, analytics, metrics, and provides a corporate industry interface for facilities maintenance, operations and energy

  • Leads system-facing Capital Maintenance Program Delivery Center of Excellence that standardizes design specifications, develops nationally standardized maintenance requirement prioritization, oversees 3-year maintenance action plans, develops uniform contracting strategies, and develops standardized naming conventions

  • Leverages industry-leading technical expertise and best practices to proactively execute huge and growing volume of KP portfolio operations and maintenance functions

  • Develops engineering community through targeted technical development and training, staffing model analysis, and succession planning

  • Integrates KP facilities operations and maintenance teams at national, regional, and local levels into a seamless enterprise system of capability

  • Leads ongoing effort to develop Facilities Operations into an enterprise shared service

This position has a target base salary of $280,000 to $350,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in the combined areas of facilities management, maintenance management, energy management, strategic planning and related areas in the facilities (preferably health care) industry.

  • Seven (7) years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Architecture, or a related field, or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A


Additional Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of facilities operations and maintenance, architecture, construction and engineering principles, energy management and information systems management.

  • Strong working knowledge of health care facilities related regulatory and accreditation agencies, their requirements and application in both inpatient and outpatient facilities.

  • Demonstrated understanding of facilities impacts on staffing, infection control and brand image.

  • Experience working for (a) major institution(s), preferably large, complex, multi-dimensional and heavily matrixed reporting relationship environment.

  • Demonstrated success in leading transformational efforts.

  • Experience and ability to provide direct leadership as well as leadership through influence and collaboration.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in facility management, engineering, architecture, or business desirable.

  • Industry certifications in facility operations management and/or sustainability through the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) or similar groups desirable.
