Under general direction of the Chief Engineer I and following established methods and procedures, the Water & Sewage Plant Supervisor (WSPS) maintains the operation and preventive maintenance of a variety of equipment utilized in the treatment of the Water and Sewage Plants. Makes routine inspections of plant equipment and records data on daily check lists, reads meters and gauges and records operating information necessary to document shift processes and to evaluate operating characteristics. Takes daily required samples and makes routine qualitative and quantitative chemical and biochemical analysis of water and wastewater by standardized and predetermined methods as prescribed in the book of standard methods. Makes necessary mathematical computations, prepares standard reagents and chemical solutions, filters and weighs samples preparatory to analysis. Cleans and assembles laboratory apparatus and glassware. Records test data and keeps records pertaining to analysis as required by regulating agencies. Regulates and adjusts equipment including centrifugal pumps, valves and motors to conform to process requirements. Takes and records daily meter readings of five (5) domestic wells, institution water usage, laundry soft water usage, Facility D and Facility C potable water meters and potable water pressure. Takes record readings of sewer flows of Facility C. Identifies equipment malfunctions and advises the Chief Engineer. Conducts minor chemical balance as needed.
Maintains security by leading and supervising inmates, prevents escapes and prevents injury by inmates to themselves, others, or to property. Maintains the security of working areas and work materials, inspects premises for contraband.
