Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 107.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Water Quality Field Technician is responsible for the collection of bacteriological and chemical samples to monitor the drinking water distribution system. They analyze water samples with instruments to ensure drinking water is safe and meets regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform flushing and chemical analysis of dead-end water mains for TCEQ compliance

• Respond to water quality complaints or issues by analyzing the surround area and determining what hydrants should be utilized to improve water quality

• Perform chemical analysis of drinking water

• Collect and transport samples for laboratory analysis of chemical, bacteriological, mineral, and metal content of drinking water and source water supplies

• Monitor water pressure, elevated and ground storage tanks, and autoflusher adjustments

• Document water analysis results through written and electronic means

• Record work performed in computerized work management system

• Provide clear and detailed accounts of customer complaints, as required by state regulations

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on monitoring equipment and infrastructure

• Conduct daily calibrations on instruments

• Create standards monthly to calibrate instruments used for compliance monitoring

• Deliver professional internal/external customer service

• Respond to customer complaints regarding drinking water quality

• Perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve complaints and changes in drinking water quality

• Coordinate and complete sample collection and chemistry analysis for residents, schools, and daycares for Lead and Copper Rule compliance

• Assist state contractors with sampling and chemistry analysis for regulatory samples

• Perform chemistry and pressure checks with TCEQ in response to complaints or audits

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience

• Must obtain a Class D TCEQ Water Operator License within one (1) year of hire

• Must obtain a Class C TCEQ Water Operator License within three (3) years of hire

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
