Position Summary

Responsible for manual gas, electric arc and semi-automatic high pressure and structural type welding to close tolerance by performing the following duties. Participates in the implementation of Lean Manufacturing Initiatives, product document control within the shop, and directing product flow through the manufacturing processes.

Supervisory Responsibility

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Key responsibilities of this position include (other responsibilities may be assigned)



Reads, interprets, and fabricates from all simple or complex drawings, associated with carbon steel and alloy steel metal fabrication.



Performs layout, fit-up, and weld-outs of all types of valve assemblies, plug assemblies, etc. including structural supports or attachments and is familiar with and able to meet the applicable quality requirements. Interprets weld procedures and adjusts welding equipment of all processes to the correct voltage and amperage settings for the specific electrode or wire to be used.



Tack-welds all fit-ups.



Performs final welding in all positions



Performs welding of carbon, alloy steels and stainless steel for the following weld processes: submerged-arc weld; shielded metal-arc weld; gas tungsten-arc weld; and flux core weld.



Identifies materials, prepares for welding, makes any layouts required, manually grinds bevels, performs fit-up to dimensional tolerances.



Understands, and leads all lean manufacturing initiatives for the dept. on a daily basis.



Assists the Shop Foreman in directing and coaching employees on all required facets of Lean within the department



Other duties as assigned by manager to meet business needs



Strong communication skills and ability to work with shop and office personnel

Qualifications and Required Skills:

Must pass Quality Assurance tests and be certified in at least 4 of the following areas of welding:



Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)



Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) (GTAW)



Shielded Metal Arc Welding



Oxygen Acetylene (Cutting & Brazing)



Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) (GMAW)



MUST PASS WELDING TEST



Experience / Exposure to Lean Manufacturing.



Prior experience with hard facing (e.g. stellite, colmonoy) in commercial, nuclear and/or safety related is highly preferred.



Leadership, and ability to influence others.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.

Pay Range: $27 - $31 an hour, based on experience
